To all Voyageurs:
At the end of each Promenade, we raise our right hand and recite the Voyageur's Catechism which in part says "It is my sincere desire that the United States of America be one country with BE ONE COUNTRY WITH ONE LANGUAGE AND ONE FLAG AND IF NECESSARY, I WILL FIGHT FOR THAT PRINCIPLE.
Do you take this seriously or is it just empty words???
Here in Sedalia, Missouri (population: about 21,000, Voiture 333 helped a local radio station present a petition to the mayor and city council requesting that English be the official language of Sedalia. It was immediately "tossed" and not opened for discussion.
We take our Catechism seriously (as I hope every Voyageur does) and realize that there are two ways to fight. 1. Physical force (my favorite) or 2. verbal which includes petitions and speaking with elected state officials.
Voiture 333 decided to take the 2nd choice and approached our elected state representative who was most receptive. He in turn got other senators and representatives involved and they sent a bill to the floor of both houses that passed giving the electorate the right to vote on a constitutional amendment to make English the official language of Missouri. Then, on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 the Constitutional Amendment passed by 86.3% of those who voted! Attached are the results for you to see. This is a job that every Grand and Voiture should take on. Once the people are given a chance to vote on this issue, it will pass. I suggest you contact your state legislators to start the ball rolling. Once enough states pass Constitutional Amendments, the federal officials will begin to take notice.
Being involved in such a project will generate publicity for your Grand and Voiture. Certainly , there are those who will oppose it but they are in the minority. Every public function that we have participated in the last 3 years, we have carried or have on a wall banners that read "One nation under God with one Flag and one language"
Do not tell me it can't be done. It takes just one candle to light the darkness. Have you got the guts to "light that candle"?
